A Wild Hair

Blues style song inspired by Johnny Cash... This one goes out to my Dad, Ray Clifton, the real writer of the family.

Wild Hair

Verse 1:
Blue lights flashing behind me
But open road ahead was all I seen
So I went ahead and put the hammer down
And sped away from that cop in his crown

I came upon a quick bend in the road
And before you know it I was outta control
I hit the guardrail and spun around
Then I saw that sheriff bearing down

Chorus:
Sometimes we all make mistakes
Wish we could go back to yesterday
But this life aint always fair
Sometimes a man gets a wild hair

Verse 2:
The Sheriff said “son you must be outta your mind”
I said “maybe, but I’m damn sure having a good time
And I’d rather be running for my life
Than sitting here listening to Barney Fife”

Well he didn’t really take that too well
He roughed me, cuffed me, and hauled me to jail
And when he shut the door of that cell
Is when I realized I was in for hell

You see in that cell was a large man
He had a grin on his face and blood on his hands
He said, boy you don’t belong in here
I couldn’t agree more, hiding my fear

Chorus:
Sometimes we all make mistakes
Wish we could go back to yesterday
But this life aint always fair
Sometimes a man gets a wild hair

Verse 3:
They released from that prison in the morn
The sun high in the sky I felt reborn
I called my momma and thanked the Lord
Then I climbed behind the wheel of my Ford

I punched the gas outta the parking lot
Waved as I passed the Sheriff in his spot
Blue lights flashing behind me
But open road ahead was all I seen

Chorus:
Sometimes we all make mistakes
Wish we could go back to yesterday
But this life aint always fair
Sometimes a man gets a wild hair

Yeah sometimes a man gets a wild hair
